Managing Irrational Thinking
Cognitive Distortions: What they Are and How To Change Them
This document is based on a similar one found at ThreapistAid.com which I have expanded on. Below is a list of Cognitive Distortions - or irrational thoughts that can cause issues if left alone too long (in brown). Feel free to read through the list and make note of ones that feel familiar - everyone has these, so there’s no shame in recognizing them! I’ve also paired Alternative Thoughts with each - these are statements that you can try and use to combat or replace the cognitive distortions (in purple). For more instruction on managing your thoughts take a look at my post about Anxious Thoughts.
