The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel Van Der Kolk
5/5 Stars
This is Van Der Kolk’s life changing treatise to trauma. Reading this book has fundamentally and permentantly shifted my perspectives on human nature. It has forced me to face realities of mental health care, the responsibilities we have to one another, and ask myself uncomfortable questions about my value and comfort surrounding trauma. Van Der Kolk has taught me invaluble lessons about what trauma is and how it heals.
Enjoying the Gift of Being Uncommon: Extra Intelligent, Intense, and Effect by Willem Kuipers Book Review
4/5 Stars
Kuipers is particularly skilled at identifying strengths in people whose strengths aren’t always so obvious in our current cultural climate. Kuipers offers invaluable information and perspective into the different ways brilliant minds are brilliant.
Unmaksing Autism: Discovering the New Faces of Neurodiversity by Devon Price, Book Review
5/5 Stars
Devon Price is exactly the kind of person we need to be hearing from right now. Price is a trans, autistic, social worker whose work really speaks for itself. These are the voices that have been dismissed and shut down throughout human history, but Price is a perfect example of just how much we would miss out on if we continue to do so.
